Dr. Gerhard Jaiser

Dr. Gerhard Jaiser

Dr. Jaiser is a DAAD Lektor at the School of Applied Humanities and Languages ​​at the German Jordanian University. He is an Assistant Professor as well as a Coordinator of the Master Program German as a Foreign Language “DaF”.

Dr. Jaiser was born in 1966 in Stuttgart. He studied German Studies and Linguistics and did his PhD in 1998 at the University of Stuttgart about “Carl Maria von Weber als Writer”. He worked at the Foreign Office at the University of Stuttgart from 2001 till 2003. He was a DAAD lektor in Jakarta, Indonesia (2003-2009) and in Hanoi, Vitenam (2010-2015) and since 2017 he has been a DAAD lektor in Amman, Jordan.

Dr. habil. Klaus Wieland

Dr. habil. Klaus Wieland

Klaus Wieland studied German, French and sociology in Munich, Paris, Berlin and Strasbourg. He graduated at the Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität in Munich with a Magister Artium and a PhD, followed by the Agrégation and habilitation at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3.

Since 2021, Klaus Wieland has been a DAAD lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Beirut, where he teaches German language and literature. Previously, he worked at various universities in Canada and France, most recently as Maître de conférences at the Université de Strasbourg (on leave since 2021). In the summer term 2021, he held the Marc Bloch Chair at the Centre Marc Bloch in Berlin.

His research focuses on 20th century German literature, gender / queer studies, and the cultural memory of Nazi fascism.

Ms. Julia Albrecht

Ms. Julia Albrecht

Julia Albrecht has been working as a DAAD lecturer at the Department of European Languages at the University of Jordan since September 2019. In 2013, she completed her bachelor´s degree “German Language and Literature” as well as “English Language and Literature” (B.A.) at the University of Oldenburg. Julia Albrecht then studied educational science majoring in German and English at the University of Hamburg and successfully completed her master´s degree in 2016 (M.Ed.). During and after her studies, she worked as a teacher and substitute teacher at a public high school in Hamburg. In 2017, Ms. Albrecht attended a three-month practical teaching training at the International German School in Cape Town, South Africa. From 2018-2019 she worked as a DAAD lecturer in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Dr. Susanne Karam

Dr. Susanne Karam

Dr. Susanne Karam is a DAAD Lecturer and coordinator for BA Translation for German, Arabic and English at the German Jordanian University (GJU) since September 2021.

She studied German as a foreign language and Arabic Studies at the University of Leipzig and did her PHD on “reading strategies for Arabic as a foreign language”.

She taught German and Arabic for non-natives in several institutions inside and outside Germany and has long term experiences as sworn in translator and interpreter. Between 2011 and 2016 she was DAAD Lecturer in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Ms. Anna Kloska

Ms. Anna Kloska

Anna Kloska has been working since September 2019 as a DAAD Lecturer at the Department of German Language at the Salahaddin University in Erbil, Irak.

In 2021 she completed her Masters’s Degree (M.A.) in German Language and Literature.

Ms. Kloska then studied German as a Foreign Language for the purpose of teaching at the Ruhr-University of Bochum until 2003.

From 2003 till 2008 she was teaching German as a Foreign Language in Germany and since 2008 abroad, in Jordan and India.

From 2013 till 2015 Ms. Kloska was DAAD Lecturer in Algeria, Oran and between 2016 – 2019 at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan, supporting during that time the work at the German Department of the Salahaddin University Erbil, Irak.

Prof. Dr. Markus Schmitz

Prof. Dr. Markus Schmitz

Markus Schmitz is Visiting Professor and DAAD-Consultant at the Doctoral School of Literature, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Lebanese University, Beirut. Trained in Middle Eastern Studies, English Literary and Cultural Studies, and Comparative Literature his decisively interdisciplinary work is located at the intersections of Transnational Middle Eastern Studies and Relational Diasporic Arab Studies. Among his research interests are Anglophone Arab Representations, Forced Migration and Border Regimes, Relational Diasporic Formations, Theories and Practices of Cross-Cultural Comparison, Cultural Resistance, and Decolonial Arts. Publications include Kulturkritik ohne Zentrum: Edward W. Said und die Kontrapunkte kritischer Dekolonisation (2008) and Transgressive Truths and Flattering Lies: The Poetics and Ethics of Anglophone Arab Representations (2020). His current project is a book-length study with the working title “Escape to Europe: Comparative Middle Eastern and North African Refugee Imaginaries.”

Publications include cultural criticism without a center: Edward W. Said and the counterpoints of critical decolonization (2008), Postcolonial Translocations: Cultural Representation and Critical Spatial Thinking (ed., 2013) and Transgressive Truths and Flattering Lies: The Poetics and Ethics of Anglophone Arab Representations ( 2020).
